This is the army Mr Jones #armedforcesday #cleethorpes #purplepoppy

Cleethorpes was very lucky in June to hold the national 'Armed Forces Day'.
This had been spoken about for months and surely they could not pull it off. A huge national event with Prince Harry being rumoured to attend run by Cleethorpes ,who still can not seem to install correctly a bus station to satisfaction, would mess it up surely!

The weekend did not bode well when, on the Thursday, Brexit happened and David Cameron resigned. Nothing to do with Cleethorpes you may think, except he was going to be the guest of honour! He did still attend but very briefly! Sadly Prince Harry did not attend but Edward the Duke of Kent did.

Cleethorpes was heaving. I have never ever witnessed it so busy.    Luckily it was a nice day and I wore my polka dot playsuit and red headscarf.

After parking the car at my parents who live in Cleethorpes, we all walked in and headed to Sea View Street.  This is a lovely street to visit if you are in Cleethorpes. Many independent boutiques, stores, cafes and bars. There were stalls along the street and we stood at the end in front of the Armed Forces Memorial Arch at the top of High Cliff  near the Bomber Command Memorial Statue which depicts a pilot looking out to sea.
This was a perfect place to watch the re-enactment of the D-Day landings and the 'Red Arrows'. What an amazing display! Flying since 1965, the red arrows act as ambassadors for the United Kingdom and promote the best of British.

It was then time to have a quick coffee in a lovey coffee shop down 'Sea View Street', 'Macy's'. Macy's is a New York themed restaurant and café. http://macyscleethorpes.co.uk/

After browsing a few more stalls it was time to head to watch the parade.  As we were having lunch at 'The Captain's Table' we worked our way along the path.  Everybody seemed to be in a jovial mood which was lucky as you could not help stepping on toes or being stepped on.  Being only five foot I do have the particular problem of being hit in the face with everybody's boobs!!

The parade was wonderful. I do not believe in war but I understand that without it our land would be totally different. I am patriotic. I always feel terribly inadequate when I think how brave those people were. Just because somebody fought in the war does not make them a good person but in my eyes it does make them a brave person. I also get tearful when I think of the animals that were used in wars and in current fighting and terrorist situations. They do not have a choice.
There is a monument in London, Hyde Park dedicated to all the animals that served and died alongside British and allied forces in wars and campaigns throughout time.
Many and various animals were employed to support British and Allied Forces in wars and campaigns over the centuries, and as a result millions died. No matter how small or large, all animals played a vital role in every region of the world in the cause of human freedom.
Their contribution must never be forgotten.
This year I will be wearing my usual poppy and a purple poppy.  The purple poppy is a symbol of the animals in war. https://www.facebook.com/PurplePoppysAnimalsInTheWar

After lunch Pirate Mick and I headed along to the boating lake.  There seemed to be queues everywhere!  I was unsure what they were queuing for but being English decided to join the shortest one. Every few minutes somebody came to check my bag! I do not know where they thought I would be able to conceal anything to then place it back in my bag!

When we got to near the front somebody came and placed a wristband around our wrists and after another check of my bag (!) we got though the barriers!! Wow!! It was amazing and free!! There were loads of stalls to look at and lots of games and fun for the children.  I had some drink of some Navy Rum!  That would keep me warm for the rest of the day!
There was a Vodafone photo booth, again free and Pirate Mick and I had a couple of photographs there! I was even given a rather fetching Royal Naval Association hat.
We enjoyed looking around all the tanks and I loved listening to the bands and watching their displays. There were large screens on what was happening down on the beach and if I had realised I would had watched all day from there!

As you may be aware something always seems to happen to me!  I do not seek out disaster or comical situations but they seem to seek out me!!

Two situations on that day come to mind. The first was, after a lovely long busy day Pirate Mick and I decided to head towards the park and ride.  Our car was not there but it stopped near my parents house, in fact outside my old secondary school, where the car was.
There did not seem many people around near the exit and the people at the stalls were lined up. It took me a little while to realise we had attached ourselves to the official presentation and handshakes of the Ministry of Defence! Awkward!! What to do?? Should we back out, should we apologise or do, as we did, ride it out and shake the hands of the Red Arrows and tell them how much we enjoyed their performance! Could see them thinking 'Who are they?'. We followed all the way to the other presentations and to the open car door, before managing to disappear!!

We then did get on the park and ride bus but that did not stop only at each end. People were waiting at normal service bus stops and were getting annoyed when buses seemed to just go past them. One elderly man must had waited a long time as he jumped into the road and started beating the bus with his walking stick, yelling very choice words! The bus swerved, he carried on beating the bus and running down the road waving his stick!
Could only happen on my bus!!

Looking forward to next years Armed Forces day and probably have more tales to tell.

Be Splendid!! #steampunk #asylumlincoln #poisonivyhairaccessoriesandjewellery

I love a bank holiday, don't you? Late August bank holiday was glorious this year, in fact you could say 'Splendid'. The Steam Punk festival, in Lincoln UK, that we have attended for a few years has moved to this weekend. Pirate Mick and I had a very special little girls birthday party to attend on the Saturday and so we purchased tickets for the Monday.
The Asylum Steampunk festival is the longest running festival in the world. The festival combines art, music, fashion, burlesque, comedy, fun and crafts. Take a look at the website if you would like some more information.
The Asylum, Steampunk

Image: Lorna Liza
What is Steampunk? It is an adventure. A make believe fun, stemming from the genre of science fiction but with Victorian values It is cosplay, a performance art. For some, like me it is fun and a chance to dress up and create a character and for others it is a complete lifestyle. Throughout the years I have attended a fan workshop, to learn how to communicate with a fan and a tea duelling competition. What on earth is tea duelling I hear you cry!! Well, there are two competitors, a pot master (in charge of the tea) and a tiffin master (in charge of the biscuits). The object is to choose your biscuit, from a wide selection, wisely and dunk your biscuit in your tea. (No other drink is acceptable) There is a count to five and then the two competitors need to have a clean 'Nom'! (Eat!!) The person to have their biscuit cleanly survives to eat last wins!Wonder if this could be included into the Olympics?
I have watched alien head arcade games and many 'What would the Major say?'  shows.
Imagine a world of Victorians with steam powers, clockworks, mechanical time machines and nerf guns. Goggles are a steampunk's uniform. It is a unique retro-futuristic role play world.

My character this year was an explorer. I was traveling to India. I had a ankle length brown skirt, which I purchased from a vintage shop and a cream high neck blouse. I also wore my under bust red and black corset, which was interesting to put on in the car park!!
I attached a straw boater to the back of my blouse, carried my camera bag and wore my handmade knitted fox scarf around my neck.(Which was fun in the heat!) I pinned up my hair and wore the compulsory goggles. I was going to wear my bloomers but it was so hot that I got away with brown ankle tie up boots. I had my hand painted with henna to represent my travels.
Pirate Mick accompanied me and wore his black suit, top hat, cane, gloves, cravat, spats and a red waistcoat. He also had his goggles on his hat.
We were certainly steam powered but from the heat!! It was very warm!!

There are many stalls in various places.  Some can be accessed by the public and others you require your wristband.
One of my lovely friends had a stall, just outside the castle and was selling lovely jewellery and a speciality of hers, Bead adornments!! If you have a bead then you really need some jewellery for it. Take a look at her Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Purplepoisonivy

Another wonderful stall was this one displaying handmade hats. Can you spot my obvious favourite?

Of cause the 'Wizard Of Oz' hat.

Follow The Yellow Brick Road
Inside the Castle, which is included on the wristband, was the poppies exhibition.  Do you remember the ceramic poppies at Windsor Castle? Such a wonderful and emotive display. Some of the poppies have gone on tour!!
I was a little underwhelmed by the display as the grass had grown very long and hidden some of it.  Maybe if I had walked along the walls and had seen them from above it may had been more of an experience. However I am very glad that I managed to catch them as the exhibition is now over.

There was lots of fun to be had in the castle grounds. Races, steam powered and jet pack, teddy bears picnics and the best beard was some of the activities available to join in. Again many wonderful stalls and lovely people manning them.
Costumes are amazing and everybody gives each other a smile or tip of the hat to say 'Yes I know you're boiling in your costume but no way can any part of it be removed. I feel your pain!!'.

Pirate Mick and I then headed to the next venue, which was the Cathedral. In the refectory we found respite and had a much needed drink and sit down. Again there were interesting stalls, mainly on art and literature.
I was given a couple of wonderful beer mats that had been created for a fictional animal story. Wonderful illustrations. The fictional beer was 'Guzzwort' and the fictional town was 'Winchett Dale'. Aren't they adorable!

The refectory ladies said that they tried to open the refectory most days in the summer. Run by volunteers the opening times may vary.  If it is open and if it is a nice day then I can not recommend highly the refectory garden.  It is beautiful and very peaceful and gives glorious views of the cathedral. It feels so imposing and grand as if it is in the garden and you can just reach out and touch it! It gave me the chance to view the cathedral in ways I have not before.
Below are a few photographs I took from the refectory garden.

After a couple more venues to browse Pirate Mick and I headed to the bar.  This is a red London bus converted into a bar, downstairs and a cocktail bar upstairs. I obviously had a cocktail or two.  Well it was hot!!

Then it was time to head of back in our twentieth century car and back to reality.

Part of the genre of being a steam punk is to always be splendid.  This day certainly was!!

Have I sparked your interest in Steam punk? This festival happens in Lincoln, UK but there are others around the country. The Goth festival in Whitby, which is held in April and November this year, has a large steam punk gathering.  I have also heard of other steam punk events and if you are interested please message me and I will try and direct you for a steam punk event near you.
Be Splendid!!

Painted Lady #colourrun

Getting ready at home   Image: Lorna Liza

After such a terrible weather day on Saturday I was very concerned about the weather on Sunday.  This was because I was doing the colour run in Cleethorpes! The Colour Run sees participants covered in bursts of coloured powder at each kilometre of the 5k route. Luckily, waking up on Sunday the sun was shining through the window.
Now let us get something clear, I do not run! I refuse to run for a bus and physical education has never been my strong point.  Artistic? creative? yes. Sporty? no way!!
An old teacher of mine came to a coffee afternoon I attended the other week and brought photographs of me from the age of five. Many of them were of PE lessons and being a child of the 70's I was in bare feet, with knickers and vest! No sportswear for us!! Next to the photographs was written 'Lorna likes to quietly observe in P.E'. Another teacher recalls how, at the tender age of five I announced that I was not going to do P.E. anymore. I had tried it and didn't much like it!!  You can imagine how that was received!!  Suffice to say I was soon in my knickers and vest pretending to be a cloud! Actually I did not mind dance. I enjoyed prancing around and even went to dancing at the 'Burgin School Of Dance'. Maureen Burgin, the dance teacher, has recently passed away.
I loved the dancing but there was a snag. I could not do the gymnastic side of it. I can't do a handstand, cartwheel or even a roly-poly! I think it is a confidence thing and still can't.
When Pirate Mick and I moved into our new home I decided to get a bike. I went to a brilliant local shop and bought a bike and lock and was loaned a helmet. The shop was called Bike Fix
I managed to ride to and from work twice before I got knocked off!! So that was the end of that!!
A few years ago I signed up for 'Strictly Come Pole Dancing'.  I struggled to do it. I really need to build up my upper body strength.  I did buy a pole that you put between the door frame to pull yourself up on. I could not even fix it up! That was returned the next day!!

I am not sure what happened when I decided to sign up for the colour run but I found the email confirmation on my phone after a night in with my best friend!!
It stated you could walk or dance around it so I decided that it could not be too bad!!!
As the sun was shining I wore my denim shorts, which used to be white and blue but had already had a colour disaster in the wash and is now a pink/blue colour and a white vest top. I was due at my friend who does my hair the day after so I tried to help by pinning a small victory roll and covering most of my hair with a headscarf. I wore my contacts and old sunglasses and trainers.

It had cost just over £13.00 to take part and the money went to 'Supporting Local Champions'.
I was surprised that the ticket was not checked when we got there and it did seem quite disorganised.  I understand they were trying not to have a long queue but sometimes it is necessary. There was a rumour that people were able to get in without paying! I do not know if this was true! The wristband you get could easily be taken off  but you did get a packet of paint to start you off. This was where I was shocked at the people there. Everybody was having fun but just throwing the packets on the ground!! Why?? I put mine in one of the many bins and picked up quite a few from the floor.  Have you ever seen 'Stepping Out?' If you have I was like the character Vera that Julie Walters plays, tidying up after everybody!! I am getting old!!

We had quite a long wait before the run started but then it was countdown and we were off.
The weather was amazing and it was so lovely around Cleethorpes. We went out of the back of the Meridian Park and towards Anthony Bank. Back towards the boating lake, past the paddling pool and round to the Leisure Centre. It was then along side the boating lake, across the small railway and I was so tempted to stop at the 'Smallest Bar in the World' but did not and back into the Meridian.  I was a bit disappointed at the end as there was not really anything at the end and at the very least I thought I deserved a medal!!

Pirate Mick came to collect and we had to sit on dustsheets in the car and I had to take off my shoes at the door and try not to touch anything before getting in the shower.  I had so much powder in my bra! Pirate Mick said I would had got less paint on me if I had actually run!! The worst was the purple paint and I am still finding the paint in my ear! Oh and the white vest top and sunglasses went in the bin!! My poor hair suffered as it was washed over and over again but I think the worst of the casualties was the bathroom!!

Finished

Well it was fun and something else I can say that I have done! Did you take part?  I think it was held in different parts of the UK.

Looking now for my next adventure!  What would you recommend?

'Good Reasons' to go to a Vintage Fair #10goodreasons #loulouvintagefair

Yesterday was a horrible day, weather wise and this posed me with a dilemma on what to do.  I looked through my diary and saw that there was a vintage fair not too far away.
I browsed through my wardrobe and decided to wear my handmade flamingo circle skirt.  This skirt and many others that I own are made from a lovely local lady who sells them from her shop 'What Shall I Wear' in Cleethorpes. What Shall I Wear  All the skirts have an elasticated waist with a black waistband and on 5foot nothing me, fall at mid calf length.  You can get a full net underskirt underneath if required and they wash amazingly.  I paired it with a black cold shoulder top and a flamingo necklace.
The vintage fair was 'Lou Lou's Vintage Fair'. I have attended many of their fairs in Hull and this one in Scunthorpe. LouLou Vintage Fair

The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe is a large venue. It had advertisements on the outside and the Jason Donovan one caught my eye.
Ten Good Reasons
image: Google

It was from his '10 Good Reasons' album in 1989. (The poster was to advertise Jason Donovan's tour this year, not a poster left up from 1989!! Just to clear that up!!)
I had this album, as did most other teenage girls, making it the best selling album of the year.  I remember hearing a rumour that Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue were going to do a duet and my parents went into town to WHSmiths and asked if they could pre-order it but was told they knew nothing about it. The duet was 'Especially For You' and was released on 28th November 1988. I had the Jason and Kylie albums on tape but singles I had on vinyl, such as the wedding song from the soap 'Neighbours' that Kylie and Jason were in, playing Scott and Charlene.  That was 'Suddenly' by Angry Anderson.
My favourite one on the 'Ten Good Reasons' album was 'Sealed with a Kiss'.  It was difficult to play back tapes when you just wanted one song.  You would have to reset the counter to zero and then once the song had played try and rewind to the exact number. It was a skill!!

Back to Saturday, Pirate Mick and I drove to Scunthorpe, parked at 'Sainsbury's' supermarket and walked across the road to the Baths Hall.  It was £2.00 entrance fee each.
The stalls were in the large main auditorium. There was some live music from a trio of ladies, very much in the style of the Andrew sisters and the Puppini sisters. You could do with them doing some medleys and have music filling in as soon as they finish or one of them,  or somebody else, filling in with some anecdotes or monologues or even just a compere as it leaves a very uncomfortable silence whilst they change music and prepare for the next song. They had very pleasant voices and I enjoyed their choice of songs, especially the upbeat ones.
Image: Lorna Liza

I do not know about all the dresses but the one on the right, as you look at the above photograph is definitely wearing Lindy Bop.Lindy Bop

We enjoyed looking around the stalls.  A couple of things caught my eye but nothing that fitted right.  I am looking for some 1960's bright mini dresses.
I was discussing this with Pirate Mick that I struggle to find vintage things to wear.  I feel I am too old to get away with wearing a lot of the things without looking frumpy and weird. When you are young you can get away with dressing kooky and individual.  I hate wearing what everybody else does and following the crowd but a lot of true vintage items are just too small for me. Pirate Mick pointed out that a lot of women at the age I am would be a wearing pinafores and aprons and a lot more frumpy than the look I am going for.  What do you think? If I am feeling confident then I can pull it off and wear anything with my head held high but sometimes a sneering look or snide comment can ruin your day.
Image: Lorna Liza

Before we left we had a lovely cup of coffee in a china cup and I had a slice of caramac cake and Pirate Mick had a cream tea scone. Very civilised and so many delicious cakes to choose from.

Have you been to any vintage fairs recently?  What do you think to my comments on finding vintage clothes? Let me know!!

Radio Cryer!! #bbcradiofour #barrycryer #imsorryihaventaclue

 Photo: LornaLiza
'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' This actually sums me up but in fact I am talking about the radio show on BBC4.I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue BBCRadio4

I used to love listening to the radio when I was younger. I mainly used to listen to Radio 2.  I used to really enjoy listening to Terry Wogan in a morning.  I was very sad to hear of his premature death, earlier this year.  I enjoyed his style of presenting and his humour.  He actually made a grumpy person in the morning smile!! Not an easy task, believe me!!
I also loved the comedy and game slots on the radio. Barbara Windsor as Betty and Peter Sallis as Harold in 'Living With Betty' which aired for three series, was one I remember. I love Barbara Windsor and so this I probably why I sticks in my memory. I can even remember me trying to tape it on a cassette!! Now it is brilliant that I can tape the radio on by TiVo box the same as tv shows.

'The Law Game' was another I enjoyed. A few cases were  acted out and the panellists had to guess the outcome in a real life court. I remember one question which was; If you were given a ticket for speeding in a place where the light was out in the lamppost, is the ticket valid? (I may have the question slightly wrong as it is over thirty years ago!!)The answer was...? What do you think?
I do have a party game which is called 'Be the Judge'.  Same concept and some weird and wonderful true cases.

I have recently got back into the enjoyment of listening to the radio.  I find it very relaxing and I have enjoyed many different genres and love the fact that you can let your imagination run wild. I prefer to be doing nothing else whilst listening to a play and give myself the time to imagine the pictures that my mind draws. I think it keeps your brain being creative and active.

An archive of radio plays, dramas and comedies is available. radio programmes  I dip into this a lot.

After explaining the above it probably explains why I was so happy the receive the Barton Arts Forum Festival booklet Barton Arts Festival It advertised on Saturday 2 July at 8pm
Barry Cryer with Colin Sell would perform their show 'Strictly Come Joking' at
Joseph Wright Hall, Queen Street, £18 in advance £20 on the door.

Barry Cryer is a bit of a hero of mine.  I love his wit, humour and delivery and I am a huge fan of Danny La Rue. Barry Cryer used to write a lot of Danny La Rue's jokes in his nightclub act, for Ronnie Corbett and the Carry On's. In fact he is a comedy legend.  Many of the jokes that make us laugh have been written by Barry Cryer. King of innuendo!!

Barton is not far from me and so myself, Pirate Mick and my parents headed to near the Humber Bridge to an old Methodist church  to see the performance.

The show was funny and topical. I really enjoy the game when in, I'm sorry I haven't a clue' song words are sung to a popular other tune. For example 'When the saints go marching in' to 'Old man river'. Quite tricky!!

A bucket was handed round before the show and members of the audience could write a question and Barry Cryer would pull out a question and tell an anecdote or joke.

I loved the intimacy of the venue and imagined I was sat at 'Winstons' drinking a cocktail, surrounded by wonderful people and in a way, I was!!!

Please let me know if you recommend any radio plays or shows and I will let you know if I come across a hidden gem!

Leaving on a Jet Plane #flying #holidays

Well here I am resigned to the fact that Summer is almost over.  The nights are pulling in and the mornings are taking longer to get light. I adore getting up with the sun streaming through the windows.  It makes me feel so much better about the day ahead.

Usually, for the last few summers, this has been my view. Gorgeous isn't it!  This place of pure heaven is in Kalkan, Turkey. Why not take a peek on Trip Advisor. 'Hotel Dionysia'
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/PricefinderPopunder

Turkey has taken quite a hit recently with the troubles and problems reported by the media. Pirate Mick and I were unable to travel to Turkey this year due to moving into our new home in May.  We had a few workmen booked and needed certain jobs sorting out.  Not mentioning trying to sort out the bizarre situation in which a joiner took two of our kitchen cabinet doors and disappeared into thin air!! No matter how many times I rang, text or emailed him!! These strange things always seem to happen to me. We had to go to a kitchen firm and order two new doors!

Anyway I digress, back to Turkey, I would not hesitate in booking a plane ticket tomorrow, jumping on a plane and going to Kalkan.
The people there are lovely and so hard working and rely on tourism. I do not feel the media  portrays how far away the troubles are.  Turkey is huuuugggeee!! Now I do not pretend that I know a lot about what is going on (In Turkey, or anything else for that matter) but I would not be able to go anywhere where I did not feel safe.
I am not a good traveller and think everything is suspicious, which probably, in turn, makes me look suspicious!!
I always try and be prepared when I am flying. Often things do not work out that way.
Once I got yelled at for wearing my sunglasses and was made to put them into the little tray for checking.  Fine, you think, until I explain that they are prescription and this meant  could not see when I was called to walk forward, which in turn meant annoying the security person even more! I get so nervous at the security desks and going through customs. I feel as if I should confess on any misdemeanour.

The first time I ever flew in an aeroplane was on my honeymoon with Pirate Mick.  I do not remember being scared of flying then.  We went to Sorrento in Italy and so a reasonably short flight.  I think I was caught up in the excitement of getting married. Sorrento was lovely and we were upgraded to a suite at the 'Hotel Tramontano'  We had a sitting room and courtyard downstairs and bedroom upstairs.
 http://www.hoteltramontano.com/en/sorrento-hotel-4-star.html
I remember the plumbing in the radiator having an airlock and Pirate Mick going down to the reception in the middle of the night, with less clothes than decency prevails!

The next plane journey was roughly the same time as we went to Lake Garda, Italy.  We walked down one street and was invited to try all the different flavours of ice-creams and then given a bill for testing them! Lake Garda was lovely and we stopped in 'Riva' which was holding a 'Mary Poppins' festival.  Slightly surreal walking down the street being passed by hundreds of children dressed as chimney sweeps.

Jersey was a quick plane journey but not as quick as 'Amsterdam'. By the time we were in the air, it was time to come down. On that journey we were offered cake or nuts. Now I am not a health and safety steward by any stretch of the imagination but maybe nuts are not the best thing to eat , especially if there is unexpected turbulence. "Please fasten your seat belts and try not to die by choking on the nuts". We stayed at a lovely hotel in Amsterdam. "Hotel Nadia" http://www.nadia.nl/index.php As you opened the door to the hotel you are just faced with many, many steps!!  Our room was up even more steps and that was why it was surprising to be woken at 4am by somebody outside our bedroom window.  I tried to convince myself that I must be mad but no, there it was again. People talking and banging. My first thought, which I am sure would had been yours, was that it was Spiderman. Again,Pirate Mick went down to reception and it turned out that it was workmen changing the billboard!! I wasn't expecting that!!
The room was so tiny that the fridge was over the bed!! I was frightened that it would fall on me in the night. However it was a lovely hotel and very close to Anne Franks house.
I swear we were so close to getting mugged in Amsterdam.  We were in the red light district at around 2am. We headed down an alley to cut through and it seemed really busy. All of a sudden we were the only ones in there apart from a man coming towards us. As we moved to one side, so did he and again to the other. He started to move quicker towards us and at that moment a large crowd of loud partygoers  entered the alley and the man swerved quickly away from us and disappeared!! (Disappeared through the crowd of people not disappeared as in a magic act!)Paranoid? Maybe!!
It was here that Pirate Mick was accused of being my pimp!! I was approached by a woman who asked if I needed help and was I in control of my situation.

Pirate Mick and I also went to Switzerland, France and Prague. I had miscalculated Switzerland and thought it would be warm. It was announced on the day we got there that there had not been snow for weeks.  The next day we woke up and it was thick snow.  I had to spend the holiday in the same clothes! The town was slightly bizarre in that we had to say if we wanted to go into town as the owners would have to be rung so they could open their shops.
The chef was chef, not just for our hotel but one down the road. This caused great hilarity whilst we waited for the chef to cook our courses and then in between, cook the other hotels down the road! This happened every night!!

I really enjoyed Madeira. We stayed at 'Porto Bay', here and in Portugal. Both hotels are beautiful. https://www.portobay.com/en/  Amazing swimming pools and lovely views. I even joined in an exercise class!!

Cyprus was the worst plane journey for me. I was feeling so ill on the way home and we hit turbulence as the tail end of a hurricane. We nearly missed the plane on the way home!!When we got the airport it said on the screen that our plane was delayed. As said, I was not feeling well and Pirate Mick left me in an outside area whilst he went to check things out.  A few minutes later he runs in flustered saying our flight had been called and was on final call.  We rushed to the plane and asked at the check in desk they laughed and said "Ah, the clocks changed the other night and we haven't got round to changing them yet on the screen!" Well I suppose it is not an important thing to do.IN AN AIRPORT!!

We have flown to Turkey four times. One year I won a large bottle of Bacardi on the plane! That was a bonus. It is just a long flight to Turkey and I wish they still did the films to watch to pass the time. The year we went to Portugal the film was in English but dubbed in Portuguese.  Even then it helped pass the time. Now you do not get anything.

Writing this I have come to the conclusion that I used to travel better when there was entertainment on the plane. I need my mind to be on other things. I suppose I could take some relaxants but I know somebody who took some prescribed medicine and ended up thinking they were a dog! I am sure that s extreme though.

I have added a few pictures from some of the holidays mentioned above.
